“Accompanying many of the images are intimate essays written by the out gay athletes.”

Photo book recommendation by Mike The Content Producer. Jeff Sheng’s enlightening portraits have the power to encourage closeted gay athletes, like college student Cage in Skyrider Films’ short film Football (Coffee Talk 2), to come out and be true to themselves.

Now available for $39.50 is Jeff Sheng’s hardcover photo book, FEARLESS: Portraits of LGBT Student Athletes. From 2003 to 2015, Sheng photographed 202 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender high school and college athletes in the United States and Canada. He says he began this book as a self-exploration of his identity as a closeted high school athlete in the 1990’s.

Cage is not really hiding his sexuality. If somebody asked him, he would tell that he is gay. But in spite of this he is afraid of checking out his new teammates at the college team or even flirt with an attractive guy. His flamboyant roommate Larry can’t accept his behavior and urges Cage to be true to himself. For gay athletes in a similar situation like our fictional character Cage, Jeff Sheng’s portraits have just one great message: You are not alone.
